Everyone needs a little extra strength and encouragement from time to time. Whether you’re going through a difficult season in your life, or just need an extra push to get through the day, having some words of hope and comfort can be incredibly helpful. 


Here are 10 Bible verses that will provide strength and encouragement during tough times. 

1. Isaiah 41:10

Isaiah 41:10“So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” 


This verse reminds us that we never have to go alone because God is always with us. He promises to strengthen us even when we are feeling weak or discouraged. So look up, take courage, and trust the Lord!  

2. Philippians 4:13

Philippians 4:13“I can do all this through him who gives me strength.” 


The apostle Paul wrote these words while he was imprisoned in Rome. Despite his circumstances, Paul was still able to find joy and resilience because he had placed his trust in Jesus Christ for strength and peace.

3. Romans 15:13

Romans 15:13“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.” 


There is nothing more powerful than the presence of the Holy Spirit working within our hearts! As we allow God’s spirit to work on us, we will find ourselves overflowing with hope instead of being weighed down by worry or fear. 

4. Psalm 23:4

Psalm 23:4 - “Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.” 


This verse reinforces our faith in God by reminding us that even when walking through the dark valleys of life, God is always with us. We have nothing to fear because he is protecting us every step of the way. 

5. Psalm 46:1-3

Psalm 46:1-3 “God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble… Therefore we will not fear though the earth give way… Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among nations, I will be exalted in the earth!”


In this Psalm, David reminds us that no matter what stormy seas we may face along our journey here on earth, God is there as our refuge and source of strength if only we choose to turn towards Him instead of away from Him. 

6. 1 Peter 5:7

1 Peter 5:7“Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you”


What a beautiful reminder that no matter how big or small our worries may seem to us, they are all taken care of by our loving heavenly Father who desires only good things for His children! 

7. Joshua 1:9

Joshua 1:9 - “Be strong and courageous; do not be frightened or dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”


This verse reminds us that no matter where we go, or what challenges we face, God will always be with us providing guidance and courage to keep going even when things seem impossible.  

8. Isaiah 40:31

Isaiah 40:31 - "But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint."


This verse reminds us that God is our source of strength when times are tough, and He provides us with the power we need to overcome any obstacle. 

9. 2 Corinthians 12:9-10

2 Corinthians 12:9-10 - “But he said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.' Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me." 


These verses remind us that even when we feel weak or inadequate, we are still strong because of what Christ has done for us on the cross.  

10. Psalm 27:1

Psalm 27:1 - “The Lord is my light and my salvation—whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life—of whom shall I be afraid?" 


When we turn our eyes towards God instead of focusing on our circumstances, we find true courage and security no matter what life throws at us 

Finding strength in hard times isn't always easy but thankfully we can look to these powerful Bible verses for encouragement when needed most!
